Michigan’s Upper Peninsula means different things to different people. Most who have never visited the U.P. think of it a vast wilderness devoid of people and activities and while it is true that the population is sparse, there is still plenty of action taking place on this land mass situated between Lake Superior and Lake Michigan. One such event is the annual U.P. Fall Beer Festival, now in its 11th year and scheduled for September 7, 2019 in Marquette, Michigan.
This 11th edition of the popular Upper Michigan beer bash will feature a record 101 Michigan breweries serving over 800 (!) beers among them. They will converge in downtown Marquette along the shores of Lake Superior in Mattson Lower Harbor Park. The Michigan Brewers Guild, the organization that represents Michigan’s independent craft brewers, is once again the host of the U.P. Fall Beer Festival, which happens to be one of four festivals the guild hosts each year.
The U.P. Fall Beer runs from 1-6pm, with one-hour early admission for current Enthusiast Members. Festival tickets can be purchased in advance for $45 or $50 the day of the event. Admission includes 15 taster tokens. Designated driver tickets are also available and sell for only $5 each. Tickets can be purchased online via www.mibeer.com/Events/up-fall-beer-festival and at select Marquette locations including The Vierling & Marquette Harbor Brewery, Blackrocks Brewery, Ore Dock Brewing and Marquette Food Co-op.
Upper Michigan’s 16,377 square miles are home to about 320,000 people. There are no large cities in the U.P. and a large percentage of the area is occupied by forested lands. But while its population may seem small, Michigan’s Upper Peninsula is big on beer, with a large craft beer influence and a far greater per capita concentration of craft breweries than found in most of the United States. The U.P. Fall Beer Festival is a perfect excuse for an end of summer getaway surrounded by great beer and good times. Follow the links above and get your tickets today!
I was actually talking about going to it this year! Coming up is also Detroit’s festival!
Try to visit both, if possible!
I live in Michigan but the metro Detroit area. I have a few friends that make the trip to the U.P. for this festival and hope to join them sometime. Parties in the U.P. can get pretty crazy.
I have yet to attend this festival, but I am tempted to attend this year!
