Jackson Hole, Wyoming is probably best known as a resort town with quick access to nearby Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks. But as the world learned just recently at the Great American Beer Festival in Denver, Colorado, Jackson Hole is also home to great craft beer.
Melvin Brewing, a Jackson Hole small business, received what is arguably its highest recognition for excellence in its short history when it was named Small Brewpub & Small Brewpub Brewer of the year at this prestigious event. The operation was also recognized for its brewing excellence with two Great American Beer Festival awards for individual beers: A Gold medal for Chchchch Cherry Bomb in the American Style Fruit Beer category and a Bronze medal for Melvin IPA in the Fresh or Wet Hop Ale category.
The Great American Beer Festival is the world’s largest commercial beer competition and ranks among the most prestigious beer judging events in the world. Winning multiple awards is no small feat, and Melvin Brewing investor John Fayman says it serves as proof of the business’ viability as a brewery that is ready to move to the next level.
“This is as much about the Brewers Association recognizing the incredible job that the Melvin Team has done as it is about the Brewers Association letting Melvin know that it’s ready for distribution in Colorado and everywhere else,” Fayman said.
Other, related businesses obviously agree with Fayman. Shortly after the award announcement was made, beer distributors at the Great American Beer Festival descended upon Melvin Brewing’s table to talk about possible distribution deals. Again, this shows just how highly respected and prestigious these Great American Beer Festival medals truly are. When you earn confirmation of excellence at this level, others take immediate notice. And Melvin Brewing is already taking action of its own. Just recently, the brewery opened up a new brewing facility in nearby Alpine, Wyoming and already has plans to expand into Colorado and Washington state.
Awards have been frequent at Melvin Brewing. In 2014, the company picked up medals at the World Beer Cup, another prestigious event sponsored by the Brewers Association. And Great American Beer Festival attendees might recall that the brewery won three medals at the 2012 GABF back when Melvin Brewing was known as Thai Me Up Brewery. The name may have changed but the quality and excellence have not, with multiple awards going to Melvin Brewing and its dedicated staff over the past few years.
We at Great Beer Now congratulate Melvin Brewing on its Great American Beer Festival success in 2015. We hope to visit the brewery very soon as we venture across the USA in search of brewing excellence.
