Colorado has established itself as one of America’s most scenic states and Durango- based Ska Brewing is collaborating with the Bootlegger’s Society to celebrate the state’s natural assets with a special beer, just in time for the first-ever Colorado Public Lands Day on May 20, 2017.
The Bootlegger’s Society sounds like it could be any number of things, but it is actually an organization of Durango Breweries, namely Ska Brewing, Steamworks, Carvers, Brew Pub & Kitchen, Durango Brewing, and Animas Brewing. These six brewing operations have a special IPA in the works to commemorate the state of Colorado and its magnificent public lands. The new beer is a Double IPA made using Simcoe, Galaxy and El Dorado hops. It will be on tap at all six Durango area breweries and at the Colorado Public Lands Day event scheduled for the Durango Powerhouse on Saturday, May 20. Proceeds from sales of this special beer will go directly to Conservation Colorado.
Colorado Public Lands Day was established last year by the Colorado legislature and May, 2017 will mark the first year of its celebration as a state holiday. Ska Brewing co- founder Dave Thibodeau says his brewery’s very foundation was laid on the love of Colorado’s public lands.
“As a Colorado native, this state means everything to me, my family and to Ska. Colorado public lands support our brand and our community’s passion for the outdoor active lifestyle,” said Thibodeau. “At Ska, we have access to trails in every direction right outside our door! Colorado’s public lands steward and support the lifestyle we love. Beyond just locals and natives, People come to Colorado from all over the world to play in the mountains and then reminisce about their adventures at the end of the day over a delicious Colorado craft beer.”
Lisa Pool, Southwest Field Organizer for Conservation Colorado, is ready to toast the new holiday with one of these new commemorative brews.
“Conservation Colorado is pleased that so many companies, clubs, and organizations are finding unique ways to celebrate our new state holiday,” said Pool. “We’re excited that Ska Brewing and the Bootleggers Society convened to brew a special beer in celebration of the holiday.”
