New Belgium Brewing, the Colorado- based brewery that helped push the popularity of fat tires to unprecedented heights, announced it will begin bottling its two wildly popular sour beers: Felix Aged in Apple Whiskey Barrels and Oscar Aged in Blackberry Whiskey Barrels from New Belgium’s Wood Cellar Reserve series. Both of these sours are 100% foeder- aged and are matured in freshly decanted fruited whiskey barrels from Leopold Bros. Distilling in Denver, Colorado. Each beer embodies the commitment to quality that we have grown to expect from the New Belgium Brewing team as they strive to brew some of the finest sour beers on the market.
Andrew Emerton, New Belgium Specialty Brand Manager, says the sour series is one of the brewery’s most memorable products and bottling means more people can access and try the beer.
“The overall vision with the Wood Cellar Reserve series is to finally highlight beers that we’ve been producing for years but never actually put into a bottle,” said Emerton. “Those who have been lucky enough to have experienced our golden sour, Felix, or our dark sour, Oscar, matured in Leopold Bros. whiskey barrels delivered two hours after being emptied at the distillery, know this release is incredibly special.”
New Belgium’s Wood Cellar Reserve series includes wild and sour ales, brewed and then aged in wood barrels. The beer is bottle conditioned and carbonated naturally, for a body and texture that is spot- on, without excessive or underwhelming bubbling action.
Oscar Aged in Blackberry Whiskey Barrels and Felix Aged in Apple Whiskey Barrels are available only in select markets and are packaged in 375 ml and 750 ml bottles.
