New Braunfels Brewing, a craft brewery located in the south central Texas city of the same name, has announced its first ever distribution outside of its home state. California and Oregon, two of the nation’s greatest states for craft beer, will now see New Braunfels sour beer in stores, restaurants, and taverns for the first time, ushering in a new era of growth for this Texas brewery.
Kelly Meyer, co- owner of New Braunfels Brewing, says the deals made in California and Oregon are perfect for a sour beer business such as his and are they are, in fact, the first of a few planned expansions going into the new year.
“This signals the beginning of our expansion project for 2018. We are in negotiations with 3 additional distribution partners and hope to have those agreements in place as early as late January”, said Meyer. “The markets of Portland and LA are extremely important to us because of the popularity of sour beers there and the opportunity to pour our beer alongside some of the greatest beers in the country,” Meyer added.
New Braunfels Brewing is reasonably well- established on its home turf. Full Clip Distributors delivers New Braunfels beer to Dallas/Ft. Worth, Austin, and other parts of northeast Texas. Other distributors handle deliveries to Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, College Station, and Fredericksburg.
Head Brewer Nathan Rice says New Braunfels beer appeals to a more sophisticated palate and once an individual’s tastes meet that level of maturity, there is often no turning back.
“We purposefully don’t make beer that appeals to the Bud Light drinker,” Rice said. “Our beer is complex, tart and focuses on dynamic flavors. A lot of people aren’t going to come around to the art we produce and there’s nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, some of the more mature craft beer markets around the country not only appreciate the style of beer we produce but literally line up for it.”
Oregon’s distribution will be handled by Point Blank Distributing while California will be serviced by Pipeline Craft Distributing. It’s certainly great news for New Braunfels Brewing and judging by the quality of its sour beers, we at Great Beer Now are confident that this Texas brewery will achieve success on the American west coast.
