
Beer is a catalyst for storytelling. A common piece of social media humor that has been circulating for while recommends drinking beer because ‘no great story ever started with eating a salad.’ It’s meant to invoke a chuckle or two, but there is much truth in this statement and New Holland Brewing Company has launched a contest involving storytelling over beer with the top winner receiving $5,000 plus another $5,000 to donate to charity among a group of important causes selected by New Holland Brewing.
New Holland Brewing is best known for its delicious and inspiring Dragon’s Milk Stout and the Michigan- based brewery is tapping into the success of this brand, as well as its ability to inspire legend telling, with its Share a Legend campaign. The contest is an open- ended storytelling project that invites you, New Holland Brewing’s adoring fans, to share a video describing a personal story. It can be a story about an individual triumph, the goodness of the human spirit, or a person who has been an important influence on one’s life. To offer up inspiration, New Holland Brewing will release videos over the next few weeks depicting six actual people who are legends in their own right, falling into the archetypes of Warrior, Poet, Huntress, Smith, Alchemist, and Performer.
To enter the contest, all you have to do is create your own video illustrating your personal story and then share the video online at Dragonsmilk.com or through social media using the hashtag #ShareALegend. You must be age 21 and up to enter and you must reside in the United States. The contest will run through November 13, 2018. New Holland Brewing will judge the videos, narrowing down to five semi- finalists. The videos will then be released for online fan voting, with the winner collecting the $10,000 cash prize, with half the winnings going to charity.

As many craft beer fans already know, New Holland Dragon’s Milk was named for a story told in medieval times. According to the story, a knight was rewarded for slaying a dragon with the treasured “milk of the dragon.” In the modern world, the term Dragon’s Milk still carries special meaning, as it indicates the ‘finest liquid in the house’. New Holland’s Dragon’s Milk is certainly one of the finest beers of its kind and easily deserving of such lofty praise.
