New Orleans, Louisiana is normally a happening place throughout the year. Even when Mardi Gras is not in full swing, the city known for its non- stop nightlife always has something going on. These days, the happenings are limited, but NOLA based breweries are still doing what they can to keep the craft spirit alive. Dixie Brewing in New Orleans is doing exactly that with the release of two new beers: DAT’SUMA and Bayou King.
Brewed with over 100 pounds of Satsuma juice per batch, DAT’SUMA is a west coast style IPA quite unlike any beer you have likely tried before. This beer features the citrus character we have grown to love with the west coast IPA style, balanced wit the addition of generous portions of Amarillo and Azacca hops, plus the unique twist of Satsuma juice. Bayou King is a Belgian- style golden strong ale with spicy, floral, and fruity notes.
Dixie Brewing General Manager Jim Burch says these two beers, released under the ‘Crafted by Dixie’ series, are part of the brewery’s efforts to keep the spirit of innovation alive and involve not only its own staff, but also craft beer fans in the beer selection process.
“The Crafted by Dixie small batch series is actually a big part of our long-term innovation strategy. Both the DAT’SUMA IPA and Bayou King beers were the result of ideas and feedback we received from our internal teams and customers alike,” said Burch. “DAT’SUMA was a particularly fun beer for us to craft since we first coined the name last year. We even planted a grove of over 20 Satsuma trees in front of the brewery and our hope is to harvest and use the fruit onsite in future years.”
Burch went on to say that Bayou King is a beer with a story to share.
“Bayou King is a traditional Belgian Golden Ale – it’s a beer with its own unique story and background,” said Birch. Dixie Beer further elaborates, saying “It’s been almost 15 years since the Bayou King, Gambrinus, reigned over the Dixie Brewery. Gambrinus is known to the team at Dixie as a quirky lad, a true Renaissance man who knows more about gator wrasslin’, Louisiana lore, and strong beers than all of us combined.”
Both DAT’SUMA and Bayou King are available for purchase right now, but only from the brewery and only in 4- packs of 16 oz. cans. Those who want to get their hands on these new beers are strongly encouraged to place orders online at https://dixiebeer.com/to-go-beer-pickup/ for Friday or Saturday pickup between 11am and 4pm.
