Oktoberfest beers seem to make earlier appearances each year due to a multitude of factors. Arizona’s SanTan Brewing is keeping this trend alive, releasing its fall seasonal Oktoberfest beer on August 1, 2016, much to the delight of marzen fans in the Chandler, Arizona area.
SanTan Oktoberfest is widely celebrated not just for its flavor, but also for its longevity. The seasonal favorite debuted in 2008 and is now in its ninth year. This makes it the longest running Oktoberfest beer brewed in the state of Arizona and to keep things fresh and interesting, it will be packaged with a new can design. SanTan Oktoberfest was first packaged in cans starting in 2014 and it quickly witnessed an increase in sales. Anthony Canecchia, SanTan founder and brewmaster, is ever grateful for the beer’s popularity and the support SanTan has received from craft beer fans over the past nine years.
“We’re proud to be Arizona’s number one locally owned brewery and thrilled to celebrate nine years of business with a pint of our locally brewed Oktoberfest beer. Our efforts are a labor of love and we’re so thankful for everyone that has supported us and this brew over the years,” said Canecchia.
SanTan Oktoberfest is brewed as a malt- forward beer, common for this style. The beer matches quite well with German fare such as bratwurst, schnitzel, soft pretzels and spicy, fall desserts, especially those that feature flavors like cinnamon, nutmeg, and pumpkin spice.

Oktoberfest beers keep appearing earlier in the year and while this may seem like overkill to some, it’s music to the taste buds of those who love this fall seasonal style. SanTan Oktoberfest is the first beer of its style that I know of to be released in 2016 and I can attest that it’s a quality marzen that most any beer lover will enjoy. It will be available in cans and on draft in a very short time so grab a sixer or a pint as soon as you can, and celebrate the season of Oktoberfest a little early.
