Odell Brewing is one of Colorado’s finest craft breweries. Like many craft beer fans, I turn to Odelll IPA when I’m in need of a quick and satisfying hop fix and I can count on Odell to maintain high standards of quality regardless of beer style. Now, after three decades of brewing greatness, Odell has launched a new venture in the world of adult beverages: The Odell Wine Project. The company isn’t planning this as a small, experimental side project. Rather, the goal is to produce craft wines of distinction and eventually distribute the product across the state of Colorado and beyond.
Odell Brewing Technical Director Eli Kolodny says the decision to expand operations into wine is right in- line with the company philosophy, which has always been aimed in an innovative, dynamic direction.
“We’ve always been curious and that curiosity has kept us growing and innovating over the last 30 years. Now we’re ready to get outside our comfort zone again because that’s where the magic happens,” explains Kolodny. “Beer will always be at the heart of what we do, but our mindset of pragmatic innovation pushes us to explore new opportunities in fermentation.”
Odell CEO Wynne Odell says the expansion to wine makes sense for a business like the one he founded, one that is always looking for new challenges.
“It’s reminiscent of our very early days when we were introducing people to the world of craft beer,” explains Odell. “Now we’re on a journey to learn more about wine and we’re excited to invite our fans to join us. That’s the spirit of The Odell Wine Project, it’s about the never-ending game of exploring, experimenting, and refining.”
Odell plans to launch the Odell Wine Project with a wine cellar and tasting room in a property located adjacent to the existing brewery in Fort Collins, Colorado. Wine will be served on tap and will be packaged in cans for distribution, first to Colorado and then, who knows? It will depend, of course, on how well received the wine is with the public. If the wine is as high in quality and character as Odell beer- and there is absolutely no reason to think otherwise- then it is certain to be a hit.
Odell Brewing will break ground on the new wine cellar and tasting room late this year. For more information on this or other Odell activities, be sure to follow online at www.odellbrewing.com.
