Oskar Blues Brewery, the highly respected Colorado- born operation that helped re-popularize metals cans, is back with a new beer, one that is brewed at the Oskar Blues Brewery location in Austin, Texas and is distributed only in Texas. The new beer is Saloon Juice Amber Lager, a Texas exclusive.
Saloon Juice is a malt- forward beer, like amber beers usually are, with a caramel and toasted cracker character. To keep with its Texas theme, this beer is brewed using Brown Field 10 Texas Munich, which is obtained from a business known as Blacklands Malt, located less than half an hour away from the Oskar Blues Brewery in Austin. This malt is toasty and slightly chocolatey and in the brewing of Saloon Juice Amber, it is complemented by the addition of Hallertauer Mittelfruh Hops and French Aramis.
Saloon Juice Amber Lager is inspired by the Texas Hill Country, a hilly region located in South Central Texas, near Austin. This area was settled by large numbers of German immigrants in the 1800’s. They brought from their home country a longstanding brewing tradition and they have been influencing the beer culture in this area ever since.
Oskar Blues head brewer Luke Burcham says this beer is full in taste yet easy drinking and approachable.
“It’s full-flavored and light-bodied, combining German style with Texas flavor. Saloon Juice offers a whole world to be experienced, and leaves nothing to be desired…except more Saloon Juice”, says Burcham.
Saloon Juice lager can be paired with foods such as brisket, but most who try this beer will find that they love it best when consumed all by itself. Look for it at the Oskar Blues Austin taproom and around the Lone Star State of Texas, both on draft and in 6- packs of 12 ounce cans.
