
America’s craft beer revolution has left its mark on our culture in more ways than one. Sure, there are more varieties and of beer from which to choose than at any time in history, but another positive outgrowth of the craft beer renaissance is the surge in related industries. One prime example is craft cider and in the state of Oregon, a place noted for its amazing craft beer scene, there is a celebration of cider that takes place in mid- June. It’s Oregon Cider Week, now in its sixth year.
Oregon Cider Week kicks off on Thursday, June 15, 2017 and runs through Sunday, June 25, 2017. The 11 day celebration is sponsored by Davis, Wright, Tremaine LLP and the Oregon Department of Agriculture and it will begin with the announcement of winners in the annual Portland International Cider Cup. The Northwest Cider Association will name the winner of the Best Cider in the Pacific Northwest, followed by announcements of other winners in different cider categories that include such diverse areas as barrel aged ciders, hopped ciders, and more.
More than 70 events are planned for Oregon Cider Week, with plenty of fun, education, and activities to satisfy everyone, from casual cider drinkers to die- hard cider aficionados. The week’s signature event is the Cider Summit PDX. Held on June 16 and 17, this grand tasting will feature more than 150 cider selections from around the United States and the world, making it the perfect opportunity to sample hard to find ciders and discover hidden gems.
Cider’s popularity keeps advancing each year and much like the craft beer revolution from which it spawned, the cider rebirth is full of pleasant surprises and artisanal adventures. Oregon Cider Week is an excellent way to pay tribute to this growing segment of the adult beverage industry and with an 11 day span, it presents ample opportunity for cider fans to head to the American Northwest where they can feast on some of the finest cider the world has to offer.
