Colorado- based Oskar Blues Brewery and its CAN’d Aid Foundation have teamed up with Frontier Airlines to deliver much- needed water to Hurricane ravaged Puerto Rico and its thirsty citizens. The cargo holds of planes are loaded with 91,200 cans of safe drinking water and are on their way to San Juan for immediate distribution.
As everyone is aware, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria. The powerful, Category 4 storm tore through the island, impacting practically every person who lives there. At present, about 44 percent of the population is without drinking water and a large percentage is still without electrical power. Water, of course, is the most critical need and Oskar Blue Brewery founder Dale Katechis says the partnership with Frontier has enabled his CAN’d Aid Foundation to step quickly to the plate.
“We’re fortunate to be in a position to help,” stated Katechis. “When towns and areas are hit hard by natural or man- made disasters, water supplies are often the first thing to go. And when we can jump in to provide safe drinking water quickly – we stand on the gas. In Puerto Rico, we had no immediate way to help, but with generous support from Frontier Airlines, we’re now able to lend a hand, FAST, because it’s the right thing do and because we can.”
Hurricane Maria is the third powerful Hurricane to strike the United States this year, following Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. Maria’s devastation is arguably the most severe and the problem is compounded by the fact that Puerto Rico is more difficult to reach than the other hurricane affected areas. Frontier Airlines spokesman Richard Oliver says the partnership with Oskar Blues Brewery helps overcome these barriers.
“With the hard to reach nature of Puerto Rico we are in a unique position where we can partner with Oskar Blues and CAN’d Aid to provide quick delivery of safe and clean drinking water to the people of Puerto Rico,” said Oliver. “With our ability to fly in relief supplies we’re able to provide some much needed relief to people in need.”
Oskar Blues Brewery and its CAN’d Aid Foundation have worked triple overtime this past month, delivering drinking water to people in Texas, Florida, and now Puerto Rico. In total, this charitable arm of the beloved Colorado brewery has shipped more than 1 million cans of water to communities in need. Let’s hope that Puerto Rico’s natural disaster is the last one in 2017 so the kind folks at Oskar Blues can catch a much needed break.
1 millions + cans of water? that is just awesome. Oskar Blues makes such great products(ie beer, sodas, spirits) and now are putting energy forward to help those in dire need. What a stand-up team they have there in Colorado.
