Colorado’s Oskar Blues Brewery has announced another beer in its “death by” porters series. The new entry is Death By Affogato Porter, the next beer release in this unforgettable series which started with the hugely popular Death By Coconut release.
Death by Affogato follows Death by King Cake White Porter and like its predecessor, it was inspired by dessert. Affogato is an Italian dessert that is simple, yet quite beloved among those who enjoy Italian inspired cuisine (e.g., all of us). The dessert is created by pouring a shot of fresh espresso over a dish of vanilla gelato. The word ‘affogato’ translates as ‘drowning’ and the combination of vanilla and coffee is certainly one that translates well as a flavor duo for beer.
Oskar Blues Head Brewer Juice Drapeau says the new beer is great for those who love the taste sensations of coffee and cream.
“We like to think of ourselves as proudly unpretentious foodies here at Oskar Blues,” said Drapeau. “In a beer like Death By Affogato, we’ve taken inspiration directly from the culinary world. ‘Affogato’ is a fancy name, but forget about that. All you need to know is that ice cream and coffee are a legendary pair.”
Death By Affogato is brewed with chocolate malt and malted oats. To create a wonderfully natural flavor, Oskar Blues adds cacao nibs, Ugandan and Madagascar vanilla beans, and coffee from Colorado- based Traction Coffee Roasters. The beer features flavors such as dark chocolate, milk, vanilla, espresso, caramel, marshmallow, and toasted malt. With a flavor combination such as this, who needs dessert?
Death By Affogato is packaged in 4 packs of 12 oz. cans. Look for it right now in places where Oskar Blues beer is currently sold.
