Colorado’s Oskar Blues Brewery is excited to share just released information on this year’s Oskar Blues BURNING CAN Fest, the country’s original active beer festival and CAN’d Aid Fundraiser, coming to Lyons, Colorado on June 4. The all-day beer and charity festival is part of Lyons Outdoor Games and will include more than 200 craft beers from 60+ craft breweries, outdoor fun such as The Beer Relay, and live music from Dirty Dozen Brass Band. The Burning Can (notjusta) Beer Fest also has events planned for Austin, TX and Brevard, NC.
The Burning Can (notjusta) beer fest will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. General admission tickets are priced at $45 each and include unlimited four-ounce samples plus entry into the Lyons Outdoor Games and, of course, live music. Take it up a notch to VIP level for $60 and you get a souvenir drinking glass, entry to the beer fest one hour earlier at 3 p.m. and a VIP badge. A list of the participating breweries and a link to purchase tickets are available at www.burningcan.com.
For activities during the festival, Lyons Outdoor Games will feature participant and spectator sport competitions including The Beer Relay, a trail run and beer drinking event similar to the beer mile, but with an important twist. This four-hour competition is run in teams of two or four with runners completing as many 5K laps as possible within the allotted four hours. To get a little time knocked off of your team’s total, you can drink an Oskar Blues beer prior to their lap for a two minute deduction. The team with the most laps wins the relay.
If running isn’t your cup of tea (or should I say cup of beer?), then you might want to watch the world-class athletes competing in both open and professional competitions. The day’s line-up includes a wide assortment of spectator entertainment including the Outlaws of Dirt BMX/Dirt Jump competitions, the class IV+ Adam Barron Memorial Creek Race, the Freestyle Kayaking Competition, and Slalom Kayak Competition. Guests can watch mountain bike freeriding and trials rider, Jeff Lenosky, perform jaw-dropping, not-to-be-missed demos. Lenosky is a three-time National Champion and World Record Holder for the highest bunny hop on a mountain bike (45.5 inches). In addition to these spectator sports, there will also be an Open Cornhole Tournament and slackline demos with Slackline Industries.
Probably the most important reason to attend the Burning Can (notjusta) Beer Fest is the charity component. The event raises money for Can’d Aid Foundation while collaborating with the Lyons Outdoor Games to raise funds for the Town of Lyons Parks & Rec department. The CAN’d Aid Foundation has had much success raising money and giving back to communities in need, not just in Colorado, but in other areas, too. In two years, CAN’d Aid has raised almost $2 million and has provided disaster relief assistance to South Carolina, North Texas and Flint, MI with fresh drinking water and rebuilding efforts through its “Towns” program.
Lodging exists in the Lyons area and in nearby Longmont, Boulder, and Denver. Those who prefer to get in touch with the beautiful outdoors in this part of the country might want to consider camping, which is available on Saturday night in Bohn Park. Camping spaces are currently being sold through the Lyons Outdoor Games website.
Burning Can (notjusta) beer fest is certainly much more than a beer festival. Few festivals offer so much entertainment and the satisfaction of charitable giving, so follow the links and purchase your tickets to this one- of- a- kind craft beer and entertainment event, courtesy of Oskar Blues Brewery.
