Oskar Blues Brewery, one of Colorado’s most beloved purveyors of the craft, has announced the return of a seasonal cult favorite, Death by Coconut. This decadent porter brings together chocolatey, malty goodness with creamy coconut for a taste sensation that has been driving craft beer fans wild since the beer first debuted.
Juice Drapeau, Head Brewery at the Oskar Blues pilot brewery in Lyons, Colorado, says the perfect marriage of cacao and coconut is what makes this beer such a huge hit.
“We sought a flavor combination that would pair perfectly with the robust but not overbearing backbone of an Irish Porter,” said Drapeau. “The smooth, malty base of Death by Coconut gives the cacao and coconut additions a chance to come through and steal the show,” Drapeau added.
Oskar Blues decided to keep things local when it sought out the best cacao for Death By Coconut: Colorado’s own Cholaca, based out of Boulder. This business specializes in pure liquid cacao and produces it using cacao, water and- believe it or not- coconut sugar. Cholaca founder and CEO Ira Leibtag is excited to be part of the Oskar Blues Death by Coconut recipe once again.
“We are thrilled to be an integral ingredient in DBC again this year,” said Leibtag. “Cholaca is not only easy to use and consistent from batch to batch but it also allows Oskar Blues to produce large volumes of this amazing porter. We are proud to be a part of it.”
Death by Coconut will mark its official debut inside Oskar Blues’ taprooms on Friday, August 23, 2019. It will be distributed in 4- packs and on draft nationwide in early September. This sounds like something my husband would LOVE – He’s big on his porters, and he’s a lover of coconut, so it’s the perfect combination!
If he likes those flavors, he will love this beer! I don’t know if Oskar Blues products are available in Canada or not, so you may need to make a special visit to the states to get some of this but it will be worth the trip!
