Pleasant, Agreeable, All- Malt Brew from Leinenkugel

Once regional or local breweries are now known all over the nation. One brewery that fits this description is Wisconsin’s Leinenkugel and one of its newer products is Leinenkugel Classic Amber.

Craft brewing continues to grow in popularity and some of the once regional or local breweries are now known all over the nation. One brewery that fits this description is Wisconsin’s Leinenkugel and one of its newer products is Leinenkugel Classic Amber, oan all- malt product from the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company.
Let’s first look at the basics: Leinenkugel Classic Amber pours to a light tan/golden hue with an aroma that is mildly earthy, but still enticing. A good deal of foam adorns the top of the glass and it takes some time to recede. The taste of this amber brew combines malty goodness with nutty notes, caramel malt, toasted malt, biscuits, bread, and a touch of other grains. This is followed by a noticeable hop spiciness and slight citrus character that balances out the flavor. The beer is made using six different malts and four varieties of hops, including Cluster, Mt. Hood, Cascade, and Hallertau.

Leinenkugel is quickly becoming a household name and this is mainly due to the buyout from many years ago by the Miller Brewing Company. Miller has obvious marketing clout and it has helped to grow the name recognition of Leinenkugel to levels never seen before. Fortunately for devotees, Miller left the recipes intact and the Leinenkugel family still has a great deal of influence in the running of the company. Leinenkugel Classic Amber is a newer Leinenkugel product and is the result of the company’s response to produce an agreeable beer that is more or less compatible with anything.
Amber beers are often varied, so you don’t always know what you are going to get. Leinenkugel Classic Amber is certainly different from the typcial amber, but since this style is so varied, “typical” is difficult to define. Nevertheless, Leinenkugel Classic Amber is a very agreeable beer. This beer doesn’t offend in the slightest way, but it still offers enough real beer character than connoisseurs will like it as much as the unitiated. When I first looked at this beer in a glass, I was concerned that it was going to be too light and I based my assessment on the light color and clear body. However, this is actually a good, medium- bodied brew that offers some malty refreshment with enough flavor to satisfy.
Leinenkugel will likely continue to expand its offerings to include more and more products and its name will continue to increase in recognion thanks to the marketing muscle of parent Miller Brewing. Leinenkugel Classic Amber is a nice, well- balanced beer that is brewed in accordance with the German Purity Law and fits in nicely to the Leinenkugel lineup. It is a tasty beer from the Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company and it makes a nice, agreeable choice of brew when you want an all- malt beer without the fuss. It isn’t quite a classic, but it has many good qualities and earns an easy recommendation.
