BJ’s Restaurants, the California based chain of brewpubs notable for their craft- brewed beer and extensive menus, is honoring local champions of their respective communities with its newly launched Buy a Hero a BeerSM, a program designed to honor those who have taken great risks to save lives. Greg Trojan, President and CEO of BJ’s Restaurant, says the program intends to recognize these unsung heroes while also giving pause to the good that happens all around us but often goes unreported by the news media.
“This new program is designed to engage the entire nation in recognizing the heroes in our country, in our communities, and in our personal lives,” said Trojan. “At a time when too many stories are focused on the negative, we want to spread positivity by allowing our guests to buy a beer for everyday heroes. These are the noble men and women who may not make headlines but who deserve a toast for their courage and kindness.”
How does the program work? Starting on November 17, any guest over the age of 21 may contribute $6 toward a pint of BJ’s craft beer or BJ’s handcrafted soda in the name of a specific local hero. Interested parties can contribute directly at a local BJ’s Restaurant, but can also contribute online at bjsrestaurants.com/hero or via the BJ’s mobile app. Designated heroes can be local firefighters, police officers, EMTs and others like them who have placed their own lives at risk in service to others. Kevin Mayer, Chief marketing Officer for BJ’s Restaurants, says the program is a great way to honor those who go above and beyond with something most everyone appreciates- a cold brew.

“The Buy a Hero a Beer initiative aims to raise awareness and, most importantly, enable our guests to thank our community heroes for the difficult job they do every day,” said Mayer. “Your contribution will make sure that a hero in your community has a cold beer waiting for them at their local BJ’s. It’s a small, but powerful, gesture that shows how much the everyday heroes in our communities are needed and appreciated.”
President and CEO Greg Trojan agrees, adding that the Buy a Hero a Beer campaign is an important way to recognize and honor others- something that we, as a society, need to do more frequently.
“I’m confident that we can create a culture of gratitude and generosity with something as simple as a cold beer,” said Trojan. “The stories of everyday heroes inspire me to make every moment count, and I hope they will inspire our guests as well. This is a personal priority not just as the President and CEO of BJ’s, not just as a husband and a father, but as an American who believes that our country’s greatness depends on how we honor each other.”
BJ’s wants all of its guests and others to join in this initiative. Do your part by visiting a local BJs Restaurant and Brewhouse near you or by donating online at bjsrestaurants.com/hero. BJ’s asks everyone to help spread the word through the hashtag #BuyAHeroABeer.
