Several beer styles are recognized on a specific date on the calendar, but stouts are special. These dark brown ales notable for their roasted, coffee, chocolate, caramel, and other taste sensations receive a full month of recognition. That month happens to be February and Rogue Ales & Spirits is paying homage to National Stout Month by showcasing some of its greatest dark brews. Rogue has designated this 29 day period as Shout Out To Stouts, a month-long celebration of Rogue’s World Class Stout Family. Rogue’s fine lineup of stouts, including Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout, Chocolate Stout, Mocha Porter, and Double Chocolate Stout have all received much critical acclaim, with more than 240 national and international awards among them.
Here’s a rundown of the classic Rogue stouts:
- This year-round release is a crowd pleaser. It has received a special makeover for Valentine’s Day with a custom red label
- Chocolate Stout was selected World’s Best Milk Stout in 2014 at the World Beer Awards
- An evolution of Rogue Chocolate Stout, this is my personal favorite among all of Rogue’s beer. It contains twice the ingredients as Rogue Chocolate Stout and delivers twice the excitement
- This beer is a huge hit with craft beer fans and has a RateBeer score of 100
- Rogue Brewmaster John Maier’s selects Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout his Beer of Choice if he was stranded on a desert island
- The beer was named for Rogue’s original location in, Ashland, Oregon, which happens to be the home of the famous Shakespeare Festival
- This coffee/chocolate delight was once known as “The New Porter,” named for Rogue’s home in Newport, Oregon
- The recipient of tons of metal, Mocha Porter has won 56 lifetime awards
