Frank Zappa advised everyone not to eat the yellow snow, but one of America’s most beloved craft breweries has something different in mind.
Rogue Yellow Snow IPA, a winter seasonal beer, is ready for its annual release. Originally bottled and sold to commemorate the 2002 winter Olympic Games held in Salt Lake City Utah that year, Yellow Snow is back once again, this time in cans for unparalleled common sense that Rogue President Brett Joyce says is befitting of this cold weather brew.
“The new cans of Yellow Snow IPA are portable and lightweight,” says Joyce. “The only thing we want heavy this winter is the snowfall.”
Yellow Snow is a pale/golden hued beer with a hop- accented, tropical-fruit-forward aroma that leads into an expected hoppy taste. The beer is medium in body and is brewed using locally sourced, Oregon grown ingredients including Carafoam, Melanoidin, 2- Row, and Rogue Farms own Dare and Risk malts plus Amarillo hops and Pacman yeast. The beer has 6.5 percent alcohol by volume and 82 IBU of bitterness.
Yellow Snow IPA will hit retail outlets starting on November 1 in the new 16-ounce cans, in four-packs. Traditionalists will be happy to know that bottles will still be available, with six packs of 12-ounce glass and serigraphed 22-ounce bottles available for consumer purchase. And, of course, the beer will be sold on draught where Rogue beers are presently sold.
Rogue Yellow Snow IPA is not like the usual winter beer. It’s not a spicy, holiday style brew or a highly alcoholic dark beer. It’s a straightforward IPA made with fresh ingredients and no preservatives. It comes around only once per year so forget what Frank Zappa’s mama told him and grab yourself some Yellow Snow this winter season.
