Barrel- aged beers are a treat for the senses and Rogue Ale & Spirits just released a new barrel aged beer, 2016 Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout. It’s the first Rogue beer barrel aged using Rogue’s own whiskey- drenched, handmade barrels and Rogue president Brett Joyce is pleased at the way everything came together.
“Talk about a labor of love,” said Joyce. “Trying to figure out how to make our own barrels by hand, then making a beer aged in these barrels matured with our own whiskey is the kind of stuff we love to do. It’s not very efficient or economical as a brewery to also distill and cooper, but we couldn’t resist the challenge to see what we could do to bring together our beers, spirits and barrels.”
Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout is a black- colored brew with some red/ruby hues around the edges. The beer is complex, with aromas and flavors that vary from whiskey to oak to grain and beyond. It sounds like an amazing beer, but craft beer fans need to take action quickly, as the beer will be available in extremely limited supply. It can be found at all Rogue Meeting Halls and in a few select retail outlets. Rogue will also release the beer in special 1- liter, swing top bottles that are wrapped in wood grain labels for added visual effect.
Look for Rolling Thunder Imperial Stout beginning July 15, 2016 and continuing until supplies are depleted. For more information, visit online at rogue.com.
