The Houston Astros and Washington Nationals square off in World Series action this evening. For the Astros, it’s the team’s second World Series appearance in three years and the team’s fans have been cheering for a repeat all season long. For the relatively young Washington Nationals, this year marks the team’s first ever in the big game and it’s quite an achievement when you consider that almost no one predicted at the beginning of the season that they would make it this far.
Both teams will be playing harder than ever before to show that they deserve to be named the best Major League Baseball team in the land, but there are two other organizations that are also cheering for victory. I’m talking about two breweries, namely Houston’s own Saint Arnold Brewing and Washington D.C’s hometown DC Brau Brewing.
The bet goes like this: If the Houston Astros win the World Series, DC Brau will send cases of some of its finest suds like Brau Pils and Joint Resolution Hazy IPA to Houston. If the Nationals somehow pull off the upset, Saint Arnold Brewing will ship cases of its Art Car IPA, Fancy Lawnmower Kolsch, a barrel aged option, and others northward to the nation’s capital.
Lennie Ambrose, Chief Marketing Officer for Saint Arnold Brewing, can’t wait to sample suds from one of Washington D.C.’s finest.
“While craft brewers love drinking their own beer, getting beer from another independent brewery as a payoff for a baseball bet tastes a little better, somehow,” said Ambrose. “We’re pumped to try some selections from DC Brau after the Astros sweep the Nationals!”
If you happen to live in Houston, you can catch all of the World Series Games on the Super Screen at the Saint Arnold Beer Garden & Restaurant. Those who reside in the Washington D.C. area can hang with the folks at DC Brau at the World Series Watch Party scheduled for October 25 through October 27 at All Purpose Pizzeria Capital Riverfront, located right across from Nationals park.
The World Series only comes around once per year and with the Houston Astros and Washington Nationals playing in the series this year, it’s only fitting that the oldest craft brewery in each city place a friendly beer wager on the series outcome. Be sure to join the fun yourself by cracking open a local craft beer of your choosing while you watch two of MLB’s best teams compete for the World Series crown.
