Once again, the good guys and gals at Saint Arnold Brewing Co. (www.saintarnold.com), the oldest craft brewery in Texas, are doing their part to make the world a better place. Working with Pints for Prostates, Saint Arnold Brewing is about to launch a new initiative called Crowns for a Cure. Saint Arnold Winter Stout, a seasonal release due to hit the store shelves in a matter of weeks, will contain special bottle caps depicting the Pints for Prostates logo. Once the cap is removed, it will reveal the message, “Reaching men through the universal language of beer. www.pintsforprostates.org.” The idea is to get people talking about health and, hopefully, encourage people to take preventative action.
“The Texas craft brewing community just lost one of its original members to prostate cancer, illustrating the importance and the urgency of this cause,” said Brock Wagner, Saint Arnold Founder/Brewer. “Beer has a way of getting people talking, and sometimes those conversations can have a big positive impact. That’s what’s great about Crowns for a Cure.”
Saint Arnold Brewing has committed 30,000 of the special crowns for bottling runs of Saint Arnold Winter Stout, a beer popular for its chocolate character, coffee notes, and smooth roasty flavor. Pints for Prostates founder Rick Lyke is convinced that Crowns for a Cure will make a positive difference.
“We are excited to be partnering with Saint Arnold in Texas and 13 other breweries across the country on this first of its kind program that will put a reminder in the hands of men to take charge of their health,” said Lyke. “We hope these bottle caps will start thousands of conversations and encourage guys to talk with their doctors about scheduling prostate cancer screenings.”
Saint Arnold Winter Stout will begin appearing in stores and restaurants in late December as supplies of Saint Arnold Christmas Ale run out. This sweet stout is a fan favorite and has received national acclaim, picking up awards in the Sweet Stout category at the World Beer Cup (Silver Medal) and at the Great American Beer Festival (Silver Medal). The recipe for Saint Arnold Winter Stout, which can be traced to a winning entry in the Big Batch Brew Bash homebrew competition 18 years ago, features four types of malted barley, including specialty malts that are responsible for the beer’s rich body, big mouthfeel, and roasty flavor.
Look for bottles of Saint Arnold Winter Stout at a store near you, pop the cap, and talk to the men you know about the importance of prostate screening.
