Houston’s Saint Arnold Brewing, the oldest craft brewery in the state of Texas, can be counted on for experimental brew, barrel- aged beers, and other products that are a step outside of the brewery’s usual comfort zone. Saint Arnold Brewing can also be counted on to create flavorful twists on its own products and such is the case with the latest release, Double Art Car IPA.
Saint Arnold Art Car IPA is a fan favorite and since Great Beer Now is based out of Houston, it is a go- to favorite and a beer I commonly order when I’m at local pubs and restaurants. Double Art Car IPA is just what its name suggests: A ramped- up version of the original, with a slightly higher alcohol content.
To create the new Double Art Car IPA, Saint Arnold boosted the malt bill of Art Car IPA and added Citra hops. The Citra addition is dry- hopped at the beginning of fermentation. The result is a beer with even more citrus aroma and taste than the original and an additional amount of alcohol by volume- 8.3 percent, to be precise, as opposed to the 7.2 percent ABV in the original.
Art Car IPA has been around since 2015 and its popularity and great taste quickly earned it a place in Saint Arnold’s regular lineup. Double Art Car IPA, in contrast, is a limited release beer and will be available for only a short time. It will be sold in six packs and on draft in places where Saint Arnold Brewing’s limited release beers are usually found. It was released just this weekend and supplies are limited, so grab a sixer or draft serving while you have the chance.
