Boston area residents, take notice- your beloved Samuel Adams beer is about to pay tribute to another beloved individual, a man who thrilled Major League Baseball fans at Boston’s Fenway Park from 2003 through 2016. That individual is none other than Boston Red Sox all- star David Ortiz and Samuel Adam’s has a bold, new beer release ready to drink for a special November 4, 2016 celebration at Samuel Adams Boston Brewery, 30 Germania Street, Boston, MA.
David Ortiz often went by the nickname Big Papi so Boston Beer and its Samuel Adams brand have designated this new beer Big Hapi. It’s a mango juice infused double IPA with a bold look and flavor appropriate for this giant of Boston Red Sox fame and Boston Beer plans to make 541 bottles available for sale- one for each homerun Big Papi hit during his major league career, with all proceeds going to the David Ortiz Children’s Fund. Boston Beer founder Jim Koch says it is his company’s way to celebrate a legend of the game and thank him for all he has done for baseball and the Boston community.
“Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to watch David Ortiz hit homers out of the park while enjoying a cold Sam Adams. Now, I’m excited to toast to his record-setting career with Big Hapi Double IPA. We’re thrilled to honor our hometown baseball hero by doing what we do best, brewing beer, and giving craft beer and baseball fans a commemorative brew to honor an extraordinary legend”, said Koch.
David Ortiz is humbled to have his own likeness on a bottle of Samuel Adams beer and grateful for the benefits to his charity.
“I’m honored to have a beer brewed especially for me to celebrate my 541 career homeruns and my love for this city. I can’t wait to try Big Hapi, and am grateful that Sam Adams is helping me raise awareness and money for the David Ortiz Children’s Fund”, stated Ortiz.
Big Hapi is brewed using five pound of hops per barrel and is dry- hopped with five American hops, all native to the Pacific Northwest. The brew is infused with fresh mango juice to complement the fruity hops and add contrast to the beer’s pine- enhanced malt base. It’s a big beer for a big name in Boston sports, but with only 541 bottles available, interested craft beer fans need to take swift action. The line to purchase the beer at the brewery will start at 2 p.m. and doors will open to purchase the beer at 4 p.m. There will be a one bottle limit per person with a price per 24 oz. bottle set at $29.99. Profits from the sale of this beer will go directly to the David Ortiz Children’s Fund. The event will also represent an excellent opportunity to meet Boston Beer founder Jim Koch, who will be available for photo ops and beer talk, as time permits.
Big Papi thrilled the Major League Baseball crowd at Fenway Park for 13 glorious years and fans are all too familiar with that satisfying crack of the bat as Ortiz smacked one ball after another over the outfield wall. Big Hapi is a great way to crack one of your own in tribute to this legend of Boston sports and Boston Beer and its Samuel Adams brand are ready to honor Ortiz and his charity this Friday at the brewery. It’s a great way to show your respects, drink some incredible beer, and help an important charity so make your way to 30 Germania Street in Boston this Friday, November 4, 2016!
