San Francisco Beer Weeks is one of the nation’s largest and greatest celebrations of independent beer. The much anticipated annual ten day craft beer jubilee is set for February 9 to 18, 2018 and among the many reasons to attend are ten collaboration beers brewed especially for this year’s occasion. They will be served at the San Francisco Beer Week Opening Gala, scheduled for February 9 at Pier 35 in San Francisco, the perfect way to begin a week and a half celebration of San Francisco area beer.
Collaboration beers are a regular part of San Francisco Beer Week. The San Francisco Brewers Guild is responsible for starting the collaboration tradition and this year, they have decided to commemorate the ten years of SF Beer Week with 10 collaborations, each representing different regions and neighborhoods. The regional beers will represent San Francisco, the East Bay, the North Bay, the South Bay, and Monterey Bay. The neighborhood beers have been brewed to represent Bayview, Dogpatch, Haight, Mission, and SoMa respectively.
The five regional beers are:
- San Francisco- #10 Foggy IPA, brewed at Speakeasy Ales & Lagers
- East Bay- Smoke and Coffee Break, brewed at Shadow Puppet Brewing
- North Bay- Instant Classic IPA, brewed at Henhouse Brewing
- South Bay- Local Grown India Pale Lager, brewed at Hermitage Brewing
- Monterey Bay- A Bay of Our Own Salted Caramel Stout, brewed at Discretion Brewing
The five neighborhood beers are:
- Bayview Haze IPA
- Dogpatch Saison
- Mission Clarion Vienna Lager
- Haight Pink Frog IPA
- SoMa Sparkler Experimental Sacc Trois Beer
Each of the ten beers was brewed collaboratively by several different breweries. The goal was to create a beer that reflects the personality and culture of each respective area. With so many breweries contributing their own unique ingredients, processes, and know- how, the final results are bound to be nothing short of spectacular.
The ten collaborative beers are certain to wow craft beer fans, but they are only one small component of the ten days of fun and brew scheduled for San Francisco Beer Week. Approximately 120 breweries will serve more than 300 different beers throughout the Bay area with special beer tastings, beer food pairings, tap takeovers, and much more. To see a schedule of events, visit SF Beer Week website. If you want to attend the opening Gala, tickets much be purchased in advance and are available through Eventbrite.
Beer Weeks are common throughout the United States and they present an excellent opportunity to carouse the local beer scene and discover new beers you may have never tried before. San Francisco Beer Week is one the largest and best in the nation and those ten collaboration beers are reason enough to make your way to the Bay area in February as the San Francisco Brewers Guild and area breweries celebrate a full decade of craft beer camaraderie. It’s been way too long since I’ve been to a beer event. Looks like we’ll miss this one, but it’s a 2018 priority.
