St Louis based Schlafly Beer, the best known among the city’s independent craft breweries, just announced the release of a new seasonal beer, Wintry Haze. Unlike other winter seasonal beers, many of which rely on alcoholic strength and a full body to warm the palates and souls of winter- weary consumers, this seasonal beer features the double dry hopped juiciness common to the hazy IPA style.
Schlafly Beer Founding Brewer Steve Hale fits well within the brewery’s current lineup.
“Brewed with pounds of experimental hops, Wintry Haze IPA has an over the top hop-forward profile,” says Founding Brewer Stephen Hale. “This juicy, golden-colored beer is a great winter seasonal addition to the wide range of IPAs that we offer throughout the year at Schlafly.”
Wintry Haze was first introduced to Schlafly beer fans as a draft- only selection at the brewery’s three brewpubs. It quickly caught on with fans and the decision was made to release it in cans. Hale emphasizes that this beer, while not typical of a winter seasonal, is still a great choice for a snowy day.
“The winter season usually ushers in stouts and higher ABV winter warmer beers. The Wintry Haze IPA is a nice alternative to the typical winter offerings. The bold IPA is full of hoppy flavor with a smooth mouthfeel that’s as hazy as a winter whiteout,” Hale explains. Schlafly blends malt, wheat, and oats with pounds of Idaho 7, Strata, and Sabro hops for a beer that results in a haze with almost zero visibility.
Wintry Haze weighs in at a modest 6 percent alcohol by volume and is available in 6- packs of 12- ounce cans. It is available throughout Schlafly’s distribution footprint only for a limited time so be sure to grab a sixer on your next beer run.
