Missouri’s Schlafly Beer is set to release one of its popular seasonal beers, with a slight change to its packaging.
Hoppy Wheat, Schlafly’s warm weather brew, is back for another season but this time around, the beer will be packaged and sold in 12 packs of 16 oz. cans. Craft beer fans might recall that Schlafly was the first St. Louis brewery to offer 12 packs of 16 ounce cans a few months ago with the release of White Lager. Hoppy Wheat is now the second Schlafly beer to be packaged in this manner.
Schlafly founding brewer Stephen Hale says the new packaging is great not just for the refreshment and great taste the beer provides, but also for its economy.
“Hoppy Wheat is a refreshing ale with a crisp, clean finish and hoppy bite so it’s perfect for summer. With these 12-packs of 16-ounce cans, consumers are essentially getting four free beers so it’s a perfect pick for summer float trips, picnics, and all other outdoor activities,” said Hale.
What Hale is referring to with the ‘four free beers’ comment is the fact that these 12 packs of 16 ounce cans are retailing for the same suggested retail price as a 12 pack of 12 ounce cans. So, doing the math, this is the equivalent of getting an additional 48 ounces of beer, or 4 twelve ounce cans, for the same money.
Hoppy Wheat is an unfiltered wheat beer brewed using Challenger and Mosaic hops along with a blend of wheat and barley, resulting in a beer that combines flavors such as fruit, toffee, and floral notes. The beer weighs in at 5 percent alcohol by volume, so it isn’t too strong or too light.
Hoppy Wheat will be available wherever Schlafly beer is presently sold, starting next week. The beer carries a suggested retail price of only $14.99, making it a true bargain among craft beers.
