St. Louis based Schlafly Beer just announced this year’s Artist Series beer, and if you don’t go for the taste of hops, you’re going to love the beer.
If you haven’t heard of the Artist Series, it’s an annual Schlafly Beer offering, distributed in limited release, featuring a label design from a local St. Louis artist. The beer will be introduced in advance of the Art Outside Festival at Schlafly Bottleworks during Memorial Day weekend as a prelude to the three day celebration of local art. This year’s release is Gruit, a beer brewed without hops. The beer has a tart flavor profile and slightly lower alcohol level (5.0% ABV) than most beers. The attractive, colorful label design this year was created by St. Louis musicians and printmakers Paige Brubeck and Evan Sult, both of Sleepy Kitty Arts fame, and it will be prominently displayed on every 750 ml bottle.
Sleepy Kitty has worked with Schlafly Beer in the past and is excited to continue the relationship.
“We love to have our work crossover with the things we love…beer included,” says Sleepy Kitty. “We played at Schlafly’s Art Outside Festival last year so it’s pretty cool to have our other art medium of printmaking featured in tie with the event this year.”
Art Outside Festival is scheduled for May 25- 27, 2018 and will feature artwork from 65 selected artists located without a 120-mile radius of St. Louis. Sleepy Kitty Arts is among the 65 and brand Manager Wil Rogers says the event is intended to expose locals to the many amazing artists that call the St. Louis area home.
“Drawing nearly 20,000 visitors each year, Art Outside is dedicated to showcasing local art in an approachable venue and manner,” said Rogers. “Art Outside is not an ordinary fair, but one that features quality and affordable art, music, and plenty of tasty food and drink from Schlafly Beer. The festival’s mission is to increase public knowledge and appreciation for the local art scene by creating opportunities that connect artists, musicians, and the community.”
Art Outside is now in its 14th year and if you live in the St. Louis area, it’s an excellent means to discover local art and artists.
