Saint Louis- based Schlafly Beer has announced the release of its latest seasonal beer. The beer is Schlafly Oktoberfest and it will be distributed in 12 packs of 16-ounce cans and in 12 pack and 6 packs of twelve ounce bottles across the brewery’s present distribution area. It follows the spring, canned release of Hoppy Wheat and it’s one of the few seasonal beer releases from any brewery to be packaged in 12 packs of pint size cans.
Schlafly Oktoberfest is brewed in the tradition of a Marzen style beer and it was recently selected as one of USA Today’s Oktoberfest beers to try. With 5.5 percent alcohol by volume and 25 IBUs, this is an easy- going beer that emphasizes the flavors of sweet/toasted malts. Schlafly brewer and founder Stephen Hale says this Oktoberfest brew is ideal for celebrating the fall season and it emphasizes his brewery’s German foundation.
“Our Oktoberfest is authentic in its execution and evocation of heritage. We use Munich malt and German hops for this traditional Märzen. It’s a tasteful tribute to our German roots,” says Hale.
Schlafly Beer was once packaged almost entirely in glass bottles, but the brewery is slowly but surely moving in a metal direction. Schlafly’s year- round White Lager was released in cans and the Hoppy Wheat seasonal is also a canned beer. The summer release, Proper Cider: Raspberry, is packaged in cans as well. The movement toward canned packaging is popular with craft beer fans and Schlafly is answering the demands of customers by slowing changing to cans for many of its beers.
Schlafly Oktoberfest is available right now and will continue to be available for the next few months. To track down this seasonal release near you, visit online at http://www.schlafly.com/beer-finder/.
