St. Louis based Schlafly Beer has announced the release of another 12- pack sampler, this time Stout Bout, a sampler pack back by popular demand. It features three bottles each of four different Schlafly stouts: Mexican Chocolate Stout, Dulce de Leche Stout, Raspberry Coffee Stout, and Mango Ancho Stout (5.7%). The sampler pack will be available in the Schlafly brewpubs right after Thanksgiving, on Friday, November 23 and will then be available across Schlafly’s full distribution area starting on Monday, November 26.
Stout Bout’s name is based on the boxing term for a match and it includes four “winning” selections as determined by fans at Schlafly’s annual Stout & Oyster Festival. Schlafly brews a total of ten specialty stouts for this March event and asks fans to select the best in the bunch. The Dulce de Leche and Mango Ancho stouts were the top choices among fans.
Schlafly Beer founding brewer Stephen Hale says customer input is important and the Stout & Oyster Festival is a great way to find out which beers truly are standouts.
“People really look forward to seeing what flavors will make the pack every year,” says Hale. “We listen to our consumer requests, and Stout & Oyster Festival is a fun way to test out new stouts from our creative brewing team. Festival attendees get to be a part of the process to help us curate what stouts make the pack, and now, they get to enjoy them again in the Stout Bout.”
The other two stouts are included for nostalgic reasons and are certain to be a hit with fans. The Raspberry Coffee Stout was previously retired from the Schlafly lineup but is now back for an encore appearance. And the ever- popular Mexican Chocolate Stout, a regular Stout Bout feature, is back for its third straight year.
“All of the stouts can be found only in the Stout Bout so it’s a fun, exclusive sampler pack,” Hale noted.
Schlafly’s Stout & Oyster Festival is the event that helps decide the beers for the Stout Bout and those who would like to be part of next year’s decision process need to mark their calendars for Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23. The festival takes places at the Schlafly Tap Room, located at 2100 Locust St., St. Louis, MO. Schlafly flies in 80,000 oysters and 25 shuckers from both coasts for this festival, which happens to be one of the largest oyster festivals in the United States. Like with previous year’s festivals, the 2019 event will again include unique specialty stouts for sampling, with the winners brewed for the next Stout Bout edition.
Stout Bout is sold for a suggested retail price of $13.99 and will be available at Schlafly brewpubs and at retail outlets where Schlafly beer is presently sold. To track down a 12 pack of Stout Bout near you, use the Schlafly beer finder at http://www.schlafly.com/beer-finder/.
