Oysters and stout are a taste combination like few others and in just a few weeks, St. Louis’ own Schlafly Beer will host the 21th annual Stout & Oyster Festival. Scheduled for Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 at the historic Schlafly Tap Room at 2100 Locust, this memorable event is the largest festival of its type in the Midwest.
This latest edition of the Stout and Oyster Festival is shaping up to be the largest and best yet, with live music from seven different musical acts and a wide assortment of craft stouts brewed for the occasion. The stouts on tap will rotate throughout the two- day event and will feature selections such as St. Louis Smokehouse Stout, St. Louis Riplet Stout, Maplewood Coffee Stout, brewed with La Cosecha Coffee Roasters coffee, St. Charles Coffee Stout, made with Course Coffee Roasters coffee, Tabasco Stout, S’Mores Stout and Chocolate Orange Stout.
Also in the lineup is a special Oyster Stout brewed and canned specifically for the event. This special release beer features a “by-the-numbers” label that depicts an image of the United States with the total miles logged for the oysters to reach their destination at Schlafly’s Tap Room and other fun bits of trivia.
There’s going to be plenty of shucking going on at the Stout and Oyster Fest and according to founding brewer Steve Hale, the event is a homecoming of sorts for many individuals, several of whom have been coming to the festival for shucking purposes since the event was founded.
“Some of our shuckers have been coming to the festival for over 20 years. They look forward to reuniting with one another as well as the guests. For many of our festival-goers, they come back every year to see their favorite shuckers,” said Hale.
