Fall, 2018 will be here before we know it and Missouri- based Schlafly Beer is set to release one of its popular fall seasonal beers, with a spicy surprise.
Schlafly beer fans already know about the brewery’s popular pumpkin ale. This year, the traditional pumpkin ale is set for release as always, but there is another Schlafly pumpkin ale waiting to be tasted. It’s White Pumpkin Ale and it is available in extremely limited quantities. Rather than sell this variant in its own six packs, Schlafly decided to have a little fun and release it intermixed with its traditional pumpkin brew. Approximately 1,000 bottles of White Pumpkin Ale were released and there is no telling the packages in which they will appear. You, the curious beer drinker, have been advised to check out the individual bottles when you buy your next sixer of Schlafly Pumpkin Ale to see if you’re one of the lucky few.
Why a White Pumpkin Ale? Well, Schlafly founding brewer Stephen Hale says it was to have a little fun with a seasonal style of beer that is often frowned upon by the craft beer public.
“There are a lot of pumpkin beer haters out there,” says Hale, “until they try ours. It’s a classic, but the White Pumpkin variant is a fun way to spice (pun intended) things up this year.”
Like you might have guessed from its name, White Pumpkin Ale is brewed using heirloom white pumpkins and it features the familiar pumpkin beer flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, and clove spice. Other ingredients used in this special brew include Pale, Euro Pils, Carapils, and White Wheat malts; Flaked Oats; and Magnum hops.
Craft beer fans need to realize that, at best, there will be one White Pumpkin Ale bottle in each six pack. The new version is easily distinguishable from the traditional one by its labeling and it will be obvious once you see it. Most who purchase a six pack won’t even know what is going on until they get home and remove the bottles from the six pack carrier. However, you, the well informed consumer, will have the heads up and know exactly what to look for.
“It’s a fun, autumnal ‘Easter egg’ for consumers to seek out in Pumpkin Ale six-packs,” said Hale.
Look for Schlafly Pumpkin Ale in places where Schlafly beer is presently sold. And be sure to check the bottles for one of the new White Pumpkin Ale bottles. It’s a cool way to track down a new beer and discover what characteristics white heirloom pumpkins add to the flavor of an already delicious brew.
