San Diego’s Second Chance Beer Company has released a new beer, one that pays tribute to the 30th anniversary of Death Row Records. The new beer is Death Row West Coast IPA and it will be available on draft and in cans while supplies last.
Celebrating a Record Legend
In case you haven’t heard of Death Row Records before, it was founded by Dr. Dre and Marion “Suge” Knight back in 1992. The first full- length album release was Dr. Dre’s The Chronic, which was released on December 15, 1992. In its first year, this album sold over three million copies. The critical praise was widespread, and it earned a place in Rollings Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time and in Time Magazine’s 100 Greatest Albums of All Time. Death Row is still doing well and was purchased by Snoop Dogg early in 2022.
This 30- year commemorative brew was created by Edgar Preciado of Beer Thug Life and Daniel Phoenix of Hip Hop Craft, the latter of whom selected Second Chance Beer Company to brew the beer. Both Preciado and Phoenix have contributed to the beer’s production, brewing, and packaging. They helped create the recipe, too. Cans of Death Row West Coast IPA even have a QR code that consumers can use to download exclusive content and music from Death Row Records.
Second Chance co- founder and CEO Virginia Morrison is thrilled that her brewery was selected to produce this anniversary beer.
“We are incredibly honored to have been chosen to produce this beer for such a monumental anniversary of such a monumental record label in the music industry,” said Morrison. “I loved Death Row Records’ music growing up, and it’s even more exciting now that Snoop Dogg owns the company. I’m still pinching myself because this is a dream come true that I never could have imagined.”
Get Your Anniversary Beer
Death Row IPA contains 7.0% ABV and serves up a full- bodied taste with notes of citrus, pine, and grapefruit. At the moment, this beer will be available only at the Second Chance Carmel Mountain tasting room and North Park lounge. It will eventually make its way to stores, but that will come later.
Second Chance Beer has planned a release party in San Diego on Sunday, August 7, 2022. The brewery will donate a portion of sales to local dog rescues such as The Animal Pad and Second Chance Dog Rescue, as well as Friends for Life Animal Rescue in Gilbert, Arizona. This sounds like one my husband would like. We don’t live anywhere near there, though, so I’ll have to wait to see if it makes it to stores near us.
This is so cool! Death Row is one of the greatest hip hop labels of all time. I love this partnership.
Though I am not much into this but it seems to be pretty cool. And it is indeed a kind gesture to donate a portion of their sales for rescue of local dogs.
Wow…that’s a very good-looking design on the beer can! I think it’s just because it’s in my favourite colour. Love it. I’ve heard a lot about Death Row Records.
Wow! This look so good! I’m absolutely sure that my husband and my dad would love this!
These cans look cool! I’m down to try it, the grapefruit note sounds tasty.
This sounds tasty. Love the collab!
That’s such a neat collaboration. I think my husband would enjoy this.
This is first time to know about these records. It’s interesting to know and know more about them.
I have never heard of these before but I am sure my husband would love it. It is interesting to know more about them
I am not much into beer but this is so awesome. What a kind gesture to donate a portion of their sales for rescue of local dogs.
