In the past, this act of kindness was limited to in- person encounters at a favorite restaurant or bar but in today’s world of high tech, there is a new way to send someone a drink, right from the comfort of your smartphone or iPhone. The service is Get Your Drink On (GYDO), an app that lets you gift a drink to someone anywhere in the world.
Have a Drink on Me
Using GYDO is as simple as downloading the app through Google Play or Apple App. Users then answer a few basic questions to establish a profile. You can even add a few facts about your favorite alcoholic drinks so that friends know which drink they should bestow upon you.
To send someone a gift, you can select one of the customized gifts, which include “Drink is on Me”, for $10; “Round is on Me”, for $25; or “Party is on Me”, for $100. If you prefer you can choose a custom amount and enter the dollar figure you like. Your gift will be transferred to the recipient, who will receive the funds into his/her Drink Wallet. The gift can be redeemed at any establishment that accepts Google Pay or Apple Pay.

GYDO is a cool way to send someone a quick gift of adult beverage love. Here at Great Beer Now, drinks are a regular part of life and when we heard about this new app, we were more than ready to give it a try. The app was created by entrepreneurs Ryan Williams and Rachel H. Van Gorp and it offers a solution to a problem that should have been resolved a long time ago: Sending someone the gift of booze when you can’t be right there, in person, to make the transaction. It’s like hearing the words ‘drinks are on the house’, but it’s even better because it came from someone you know.
Downloading the app is free and easy. Setting up an account is simple as well- you need only a few basic items, such as your name, email address, phone number, etc. One small challenge I faced was finding a place that accepted Google Pay. My first two attempts to use my gift were unsuccessful because the breweries I was at didn’t accept Google Pay. However, this shouldn’t be a problem if you’re the type who frequents large bars and restaurants. Most of these larger establishments are fully equipped to accept Google Pay and Apple Pay, so never fear.

That’s a great idea. I literally just now sent a friend a bottle of wine via Dunzo (delivery app). It’s just a nice way of telling someone you are thinking of them, and acknowledging that they need a little pickmeup – especially while in lockdown/isolation.
