Lighter, more session- oriented beers used to be associated with mostly the summer season, but refreshment is extending to the cooler times of year with a little help from Full Sail Brewing.
The newest beer from our friends in Hood River, Oregon is called Session Tangerine Twist and it’s a brand- new beer just added to the popular and widely recognizable Session series. Full Sail Brewmaster Greg Doss says the new beer is fruity, as you expect, but still maintains its real beer character.
“We wanted the tangerine to come through in this lightly hopped pale ale,” says Doss. “A hint of Cascade hops gives Session Tangerine Twist a natural citrus character and a twist of lemon rounds it out.” Tangy aromas of citrus zest and tangerine burst from this golden, refreshing ale.
Full Sail’s Session series has been around for 12 years and what I like about this series is that the beers, while less alcoholic and more palatable than others, still possess enough character and flavor to make them appealing to the staunchest craft beer fans. They manage to easily mend the problem they were intended to resolve: To brew a beer that is more approachable and user- friendly but also one that is sophisticated and flavorful enough to satisfy those who demand above average taste in everything they drink.
Session Tangerine Twist is available from January through April and is packaged in the Session Series 12- pack. The beer contains 5.2 percent alcohol and 20 IBUs of bitterness, so it is certainly moderate by these basic measures.
