National Homebrew Day is celebrated on May 7 each year. In conjunction with this special day, the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) celebrates AHA Big Brew on the first Saturday in May. That day happens to be May 6 this year and it will be marked by homebrew- themed events, demonstrations, education, and more across this great land of ours.
Central to the weekend of festivities is the art and science of homebrewing itself, but another important part of the day is the National Toast. At noon Central Daylight Time, May 6, 2017 homebrewers and craft beer fans in general are encouraged to raise their glasses high in a toast to the homebrewing hobby.
Anyone can and should partake in this simultaneous toast, regardless of who they are or where they might be. But if you would rather be part of an organized celebration, the American Homebrewers Association has an interactive map of AHA Big Brew event locations across the United States. If you’re already part of a homebrew club or some other beer- related organization and want to be included in the above mentioned map, all you have to do is Register your local AHA Big Brew event. Everyone is encouraged to join the conversation about BIG Brew in Twitter using the hashtag #BigBrew17.
Homebrewing is a fun and rewarding hobby. There are presently over 1.2 million homebrewers in the United States and more people are added to the ranks each day. AHA Big Brew is a great way to pay tribute to those who craft their own beer so find a Big Brew event near you and pay your respects to this popular and growing hobby at 12 p.m. on Saturday, May 6.
