Texas based- Shiner Beer is once again teaming up with a distillery to produce a barrel- aged beer certain to please fans of the barrel- aged style. The partnership this time around is with Bulleit Frontier Whiskey and the product of their collaborative efforts is Shiner Brewer’s Pride Barrel Aged Imperial Red Ale.
Booze and Beer
Bulleit is a widely- known bourbon brand. Originating in Kentucky, its award- winning whiskies have earned it a place among the most sought- after whiskies in the United States. Shiner’s Head Brewmaster Jimmy Mauric is proud to witness this collaboration between two iconic brands.
“At Shiner, we’re always inspired by bartenders who pair Shiner beers with great whiskies like Bulleit,” says Mauric. “It’s a special moment for us to bring this to life by marrying these flavors in our bold, new special Brewer’s Pride release.”
Johannah Rogers, Bulleit Frontier Whiskey’s Global Brand Director, says that partnering with breweries is about more than creating a delicious product.
“At Bulleit, we believe that businesses have a great responsibility to take ownership of their environmental, social and human impact,” said Rogers. “We’re proud to upcycle our barrels by giving them to breweries through the Bulleit and Beer program, and we’re excited to support local markets and celebrate the amazing partnerships that the program creates.”
Tasting Notes
Brewer’s Pride Barrel Aged Imperial Red Ale is aged in Bulleit Bourbon barrels. The aging in barrels imparts flavors of wood and vanilla, which match up quite nicely with the toasted malt and caramel character of the ale. The beer is a little boozier than most, which is common for this style of beer. But it isn’t excessively strong. With 9 percent alcohol by volume, it has an abv that is lower than that of most barrel aged beers.
Partnerships that Last
Shiner’s Brewer’s Pride Barrel- Aged series is a rotating partnership that continues to thrill craft beer fans across the great state of Texas. Shiner Brewer’s Pride Barrel Aged Imperial Red Ale is the third entry in the series and the first partnership with Bulleit Whiskey. Past partnerships with Balcones Distilling and Garrison Brothers Distillery produced Shiner Brewer’s Pride Balcones Barrel- Aged Bock Shiner Brewer’s Pride Barrel- Aged Doppelbock respectively. Anyone who has tried these two barrel- aged beauties is fully aware of the magic that often results when beer meets booze.
Shiner Brewer’s Pride Barrel Aged Imperial Red Ale marks the first time that Shiner has partnered with a distillery outside of Texas and, given the brand name recognition of Bulleit, it likely won’t be the last. If you’re a fan of Shiner beers and fine Bourbon, be sure to get your hands on this new collaboration. It will be available in Taxes at select retailers, bars, and restaurants. It’s a limited-edition beer, so be sure to grab a bottle or two while you can.

i am no beer drinker. but this i found interested that it is in a bourbon barrel. Is that the case for all beer?
No, barrel aged beers are a special and unique breed. Very few breweries even attempt to barrel age their beer. It takes a good deal of effort, patience, time, and space.
