Spoetzl Brewery, the Texas- based brewery best known for its Shiner brand, has announced the release of a new beer. It’s Fresh Hop IPA, the latest addition to the Brewer’s Pride series and a beer that features the delicious, aromatic qualities common to the style.
Fresh hop style beers are brewed using hops that been harvested only a short time earlier. It requires precise timing, because the brew has to be at the stage when hops are added as close as possible to the moment when the hops arrive, for maximum freshness. To make Shiner Fresh Hop IPA, selected premium Amarillo hops grown and harvested at Crosby Hop Farm in Woodburn, Oregon. The hops were harvested and transported via truck all the way to Shiner, Texas- a journey of more than 2,000 miles- where they were immediately added to the brew kettles. From harvest to brewing was a time span of about 36 hours.
Jimmy Mauric, Shiner Master Brewer, says the labor of love has resulted in one of the most unique Txas- brewed beers available.
“For decades Shiner has produced award-winning classic and new-style beer offerings, reserving some of the finest seasonal and specialty releases for the quarterly Brewer’s Pride series. We’re incredibly proud of the talented team that tirelessly worked to achieve Shiner Fresh Hop IPA. While an unusual style for a Texas-based brewery, the team worked with precision and speed to deliver a superior, uber-fresh beer that I personally am thrilled to share with Texas and beyond,” says Mauric.
Shiner Fresh Hop IPA is a fragrant and flavorful beer with 65 IBU, which is one of the highest levels of any Shiner beer product, past or present. The aroma of this beer has notes of apricot, peach, citrus, and a touch of grassiness. The beer has a reddish hue and since it is, of course, a fresh hop style ale, it should be consumed as soon as possible, for best overall flavor.
Shiner Brewer’s Pride Fresh Hop IPA is a limited beer offering and it will be available starting on October 1, 2018 and continuing while supplies last. It will be sold in both 12 oz. and 24 oz. bottles and on draft. Look for it in places where Shiner beers are sold and taste the difference that freshly harvested hops can make.
