California’s fires have caused millions of dollars in damages, forcing families to flee their homes and business owners to sit by helplessly as they watch their companies go up in flames. The fires are responsible for at least 88 deaths at last count, and the figure is only certain to rise before the last remnants of this deadly blaze are extinguished for good.
Many people and businesses have come forward to offer assistance in this time of tremendous need. One company that is going the extra mile is Sierra Nevada Brewing of Chico, California and anyone who follows Great Beer Now is likely already fully aware of my affection for this pioneering brewery. Not only do they continue to brew delicious suds, they are also the type of business that stresses community support and involvement. Sierra Nevada Brewing has responded to the dire situation in California by brewing a special beer to aid victims of this massive conflagration. The beer is aptly named Resilience Butte County Proud IPA and it’s a cause worth mentioning on this Giving Tuesday.
Working through Sierra Nevada’s own Camp Fire Relief Fund, in partnership with the Golden Valley Community Bank Foundation, Sierra Nevada Brewing is giving ALL proceeds from sales of this beer to help those in need. This would be an extremely generous and helpful initiative all by itself, but there’s more. Sierra Nevada is also making the recipe available to other breweries across the United States, encouraging them to follow Sierra Nevada’s lead, brew the beer, and donate all proceeds to the camp fire victims. To help make this a truly charitable effort and to help breweries offset costs, Sierra Nevada Brewing is working with malt and hop suppliers across the nation, encouraging them to donate ingredients to partner breweries in support of the cause.
A large number of breweries across the United States have already pledged to support the relief effort by brewing their own batch of Resilience. At last check, more than 1,000 breweries have signed up to partner with Sierra Nevada! This proves once again what most of us who work in or with the craft beer industry have known for a long time: Craft beer is all about community, and the craft beer industry is always quick to respond when a critical need arises.
Sierra Nevada brewed Resilience Butte County Proud IPA today, Giving Tuesday, for release later on. Once the fires have been safely extinguished, the beer will be released and the funds will come pouring in. Sierra Nevada Brewing and the Golden Valley Community Bank Foundation will distribute funds at that time, donating to various causes to help the rebuilding process.
Giving Tuesday is a day designated to encourage us all to donate time and/or money to important causes. Charity is important to us at Great Beer Now and we strive to make donations throughout the year, highlighting causes that are important to the planet and its inhabitants. Sierra Nevada Brewing, a leader in craft beer, is also a leader in community involvement and the charitable initiative to aid California fire victims, along with the call to action sent out to other craft breweries, is one of many things that make Sierra Nevada Brewing so endearing to so many. We at Great Beer Now salute these generous acts of charity and we encourage all of our readers to do the same on this Giving Tuesday, and every day.
That’s incredible that they did that and are continuing to aid! I love that they’re family run and even promote that they bicker like family does and that a great product comes from great ties.
Side note, I mentioned you and your blog the other day while at a taping of the Quizzo Cast podcast. There were a few brewers and another guy with his own beer podcast called Better on Draft. The guys from Brew Detroit were on, who won the bronze in international pilsner or something with a mexican style IPA this summer at the GABF. Anyhow, thought of you and told them to look you up.
Yes, Sierra Nevada is a brewery often at the forefront of community efforts and giving back. They are one of the leaders in the industry, and they take their role as leaders seriously.
Thanks for the mention on the podcast! Hopefully, they will look up my blog and social media pages.
Wow… never knew that. Thats really amazing, giving back to the society in such a huge unselfish way! Hats Off
The craft beer community is very close knit and often more involved with charitable efforts than other businesses. Sierra Nevada is one of the largest and thus are often at the forefront of efforts like this.
