Chico, California based Sierra Nevada Brewing is shaking up its management team in positive ways, appointing longstanding employees to the Senior Leadership Team. The latest promotion goes to industry veteran Joe Whitney, who was just named Chief Commercial Officer. Sierra Nevada founder and CEO Ken Grossman says the promotion is well- deserved and he is confident that Whitney will help lead the company forward.
“As we continue to look to the future and plan for sustainable, long-term growth, having a Senior Leadership Team in place is crucial,” says Grossman. “Joe has led the Sales and Marketing teams brilliantly throughout our development. Given the challenges facing the craft beer industry currently, there is no individual better suited to help us navigate these waters.”
Joe Whitney brings extensive experience to table, having served Sierra Nevada for 10 years. Prior to that, Whitney worked for Boston Beer Company 13 years and for New Belgium Brewing for four years. His experience in sales and marketing are noteworthy and Whitney looks forward to continued success at Sierra Nevada in his new position.
“I couldn’t be more proud of the brand and the nearly 1,100 individuals responsible for its success,” says Whitney. “I’m honored to be working with best-in-class Sales and Marketing teams during a very turbulent time in craft beer. Sierra Nevada’s quality and innovative spirit will continue to resonate with generations of drinkers long into the future. It’s our opportunity and responsibility to give them choices when they choose to drink.”
Sierra Nevada Brewing has struggled somewhat as of late, witnessing a decline in shipments of its flagship brands Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Torpedo Ale, among others. The company is hoping that Whitney’s appointment and that of other new appointments to the leadership board will help turn the corner. Sierra Nevada Brewing plans to find a replacement for Whitney’s previous role, Vice President of Sales position, early in 2017.
