Oktoberfest season is on the horizon and Sierra Nevada Brewing is ready for the occasion, with its third collaboration Oktoberfest beer waiting in the wings.
As craft beer fans know, Sierra Nevada has released a different Oktoberfest beer each season for the past few years, partnering with a different German craft brewery each time. This year, the collaboration partnership is with Brauhaus Miltenberger, one of Germany’s premiere craft breweries. Sierra Nevada brewer and spokesman Brian Grossman says working with Brauhaus Miltenberger is a great honor and their expertise has resulted in a magnificent beer.
“Cornelius and his team from Brauhaus Miltenberger embody the spirit and tradition of Oktoberfest,” says Grossman. “It was a great to host them at our brewery in Mills River, NC, for the creation of this year’s fest beer. They brought literally centuries of family brewing experience to the mix and helped us create the ultimate festival beer.”
Brauhaus Miltenberger brewmaster Cornelius Faust says the collaboration effort with Sierra Nevada started with one goal in mind: To brew an authentic Oktoberfest beer in accordance with German tradition. The effort was a rousing success.
“We tried to re-create a classic Oktoberfest beer in the true German tradition,” says Faust. “We used traditional techniques to create layers of rich malt notes that remain light and crisp to the taste. That’s the secret of an authentic fest beer—complex malt flavor in a lager that remains easy to drink while you are celebrating the Oktoberfest season.”
Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest 2017 pours to a deep golden lager weighing in at 6.1% alcohol by volume. The malty brew is balanced with traditional German-grown hops for authentic taste. One thing craft beer fans will love knowing is that this year’s Sierra Nevada Oktoberfest will be packaged in kegs and bottles as usual, but also in 12 oz. cans. This is perfect for the metal heads among us who prefer the advantages that only aluminum can bring.
Oktoberfest season is arguably the most important part of the beer calendar and Sierra Nevada Brewing is ready to impress us all, once again, with its latest Oktoberfest beer. It’s a beer I am all but certain to try when it becomes available and I anticipate it will be the best entry yet in this annual Sierra Nevada offering.
