Ska Brewing, a music- inspired brewing operation based out of Durango Colorado is singing a happy tune following the Great American Beer Festival, held October 6 – 8, 2016.
Mexican Logger, a popular summer release at Ska Brewing, took home a Bronze medal in the International Style Pilsner beer Category at the prestigious beer competition. It was the second GABF award for this beer, which won a Silver medal last year in the same category. Ska Brewing Marketing Director Kristen Muraro is thrilled to see this warm weather brew receive recognition two years in a row.
“We always knew Mexican Logger was a crowd pleaser, but to have it win a medal two years in a row at the Great American Beer Festival is super exciting for us,” said Muraro.
Mexican Logger isn’t as well known outside of the American west as other Ska Brewing beers, but it has actually been around for quite a long time. It was originally brewed in 1999 but was available only on draft, making its distribution footprint and availability quite small. In 2011, Ska Brewing started to package Mexican Logger in cans and ramped up distribution. Response has been strong and to keep up with the greater demand, Ska Brewing increased production of this summer favorite by twenty percent this past year. In 2017, it plans to increase production another 20 percent but the beer will not be part of the annual rotation. It will still be available only during the summer months.
Mexican Logger is an agreeable beer that most everyone seems to enjoy, from craft beer aficionados to macro brew conservatives. The beer is made using quality grains and Saaz hops for that pilsner flavor we all love. The final analysis on this beer shows a moderate/modest alcohol by volume of 5% ABV and 20 IBU’s of bitterness. We at Great Beer Now have tried this beer and find it, well, highly agreeable and likable, not to mention a great choice of beer for a hot day.
Mexican Logger is now 17 years of age and its availability is falling rapidly due to its seasonality. Next on the Ska Brewing seasonal list is Euphoria Winter Pale Ale but lovers of Mexican Logger need not worry. It will be back next spring and considering its many positive traits and great taste, I wouldn’t be surprised if it doesn’t pick up another GABF medal next year. Cheers to Ska Brewing for its Bronze medal and here’s to a successful run for Euphoria Winter Pale Ale and the entire Ska Brewing lineup!
