SLO Brew is a major element of the San Luis Obispo craft beer scene. It’s downtown presence, complete with restaurant, brewery, and even its own lodging, is the focal point of a weekend of entertainment and in a short time, SLO Brew will debut its long- awaited expansion project known as SLO Brew Rock, an all- new brewing facility with over 14,500 total square feet of space featuring a tasting room, restaurant, beer garden, and event area. The facility had a soft opening a couple months back but now, the opening is official and SLO Brew is inviting everyone to the grand opening festivities on Saturday, July 22nd from 12-4 PM.
SLO Brew Rock is all about entertainment and guests are certain to be wowed when they witness the new SLO Brew digs for the first time. Food will be prepared by Executive Chef Thomas Fundaro and SLO Brew Rock will feature items from an all-new menu, exclusive to the new facility. Beer will flow, as expected, and live music for the grand opening will be contributed by the 1960’s rock and roll tribute band Unfinished Business in the SLO Brew Rock Beer Garden.
SLO Brew co- owner Rodney Cegelski says the new facility expands on the present, familiar offerings with more space and an easy- going atmosphere.
“We look forward to welcoming both locals and visitors to San Luis Obispo alike to the Rock,” says Cegelski. “Our goal is that the Rock will provide a friendly, laidback environment that reflects the SLO attitude and will be a fun destination for all ages.”
SLO Brew Rock takes its name from the prominent rock formation that anchors its location. The Rock’s outdoor patio is, in fact, centered against The Rock, which will serve as an eye- catching backdrop for a stage and will likely become the center of activity for special events, weddings, etc. The new location is very close to the San Luis Obispo regional airport, making it perfect as a stopover for people on the go.
As for the brewery itself, SLO Brew Rock will utilize a 30- barrel brewing system and will be churning out 7,500 barrels of beer by the end of this year. With the added production, SLO Brew plans to expand distribution and could even show up in retail stores and bars in other states in due time. Some of you may recall that Great Beer Now visited SLO Brew earlier this year and while I was in San Luis Obispo, I did get to take a look around at The Rock. It was not yet open to the public, but it wasn’t difficult to envision what this space would be like and how cool it would be once completed.
