SLO Brew, the definitive San Luis Obispo brewery, is ready to bring its award- winning beer to the masses. Beginning on December 15, 2016, SLO Brew will begin sale of canned six- packs of its core beer brands throughout the region. Rodney Cegelski, SLO Brew co- owner, says the move to packaging is long awaited and the decision to use metal instead of glass was highly influenced by the California coastal lifestyle.
“We are very excited about bringing our core beers to market and hope to expand distribution substantially beyond the Central Coast in the New Year, “stated Cegelski. “Our current focus is on cans as we are confident that they are the best match for the casual lifestyles of our customers – easy to take to the beach, for tailgating or camping – you can’t beat cans for portability, quality and sustainability.”
SLO Brew will kick off distribution of canned beer with its core lineup of beer, with others soon to follow. First in line to for the canning machine are:
The Original– This is one of SLO Brew’s most popular beers and its well- balanced, approachable, likeable character are directly responsible for its solid reputation. Well- balanced between hops and malts, The Original is a blonde ale that aims to please all who try it and its alcohol by volume level of 5 percent and 25 IBU are numbers befitting of a highly drinkable beer. It should also be noted that a percentage of every sale of The Original is donated to the Tom Adamski Foundation, a non- profit outfit that provides design and technology scholarships to help individuals better leverage digital media, thereby improving brand outreach. So, not only do you get to drink delicious beer, you’re helping a charitable cause in the process.
The Reggae Red– This wheat beer was created at SLO Brew during the height of California’s 90’s Reggae movement. The beer is brewed using three types of hops and seven different malts plus roasted hemp seeds- an ingredient not usually found in beer. The seeds add a nutty character to an already flavorful ale that weighs in at 5.6 percent alcohol by volume and 30 IBU.
The Wave Wrangler– For those who like their hops in somewhat smaller doses, The Wave Wrangler is the perfect beer. Named for the waves that crash against the Pacific shores, The Wave Wrangler is a Session IPA brewed using Amarillo & Citra hops for a beer that is aromatic, hoppy, and refreshing, drink after drink. At 4.8 percent alcohol by volume and 45 IBU, it has enough punch to remind you the hops are there but lower alcohol so you can enjoy more than one without worry.
Cali-Weisse– This beer is a California version of a German hefeweizen. The latter is known for its yeasty character that often includes flavors such as banana and clove. SLO Brew took this classic style and made a few modifications, substituting hop flavors for some of the yeasty notes, creating a California style all its own. At 5.4 percent alcohol by volume and only 15 IBU, this is a good beer option for those who prefer a little less bitter sensation when they drink.
Besides the above core brands, SLO Brew plans to introduce a seasonal beer each quarter and add it to the canned rotation. SLO Brew’s brewmaster Steve Courier will be responsible for the seasonal additions and the first one to get packaged in metal is none other than SLO Brew’s Feelin’ Your Oats, an oatmeal stout. Other beers will follow as the weather turns from cool to warm and back again.
SLO Brew is located at 736 Higuera Street, in downtown San Luis Obispo, California. The beer is brewed at The Rock, located at 855 Aerovista Place in San Luis Obispo, right next to the airport. The beer will make its way to cans very soon, but if you happen to reside in the San Luis Obispo area, the taps are flowing right now at the downtown location along with food and live entertainment. SLO Brew is the premier brewery in the region and its award- winning beer is definitely something worth seeking out so pay a visit when you can.
