Craft beer fans may have felt a strong sense of disappointment last December when SLO Brew shuttered the doors of its Garden Street Brewpub in San Luis Obispo, California. Today, however, SLO Brew has more than compensated for the loss, opening a brand new brewpub on Higuera Street in downtown. This new addition to the downtown scene will be more than just a place to drink beer, it will also feature live music, gourmet food options, and more.
SLO Brew’s new digs will offer a large, full size, full service restaurant with both indoor and outdoor seating. Chef Thomas Fundaro has an extensive menu planned with foods that complement the beers and will focus on locally sourced ingredients whenever possible. The new location will tap beer from fourteen different handles and will feature SLO Brew’s four signature beers plus seasonal SLO Brew options and a pair of guest taps.
For musical entertainment, SLO Brew is partnering with the Knitting Factory, a nationally known entertainment group. Knitting Factory will be in charge of booking the musical talent that will electrify the brewpub throughout the week. The interior of the new brewpub features a designated entertainment space and state of the art sound. For added fun, there is also a mezzanine level Whiskey Lounge with views of the stage.
If the great beer, food, and music wasn’t enough, SLO Brew has something else unique that you don’t normally find with any brewpub or brewery: Lodging. Called The Lofts, it will be offered to guests with one, two, and three bedroom options. The idea is to create a complete entertainment package that takes care of customers from the beginning of the day until it’s time for bed. In a few months, SLO Brew plans to duplicate these efforts when it opens yet another new facility called The Rock. This brand new entertainment complex will feature a 30 barrel brewhouse, tasting room, restaurant with biergarden, outdoor seating, and concert venue.
SLO Brew might have left a frown on the faces of its craft beer fan base when it shut down its Garden Street Brewpub late last year, but the new location at 736 Higuera Street in downtown San Luis Obispo easily eclipses the previous one, with even more of what fans have grown to love about SLO Brew plus additional entertainment and even lodging options. It’s certain to become the talk of the town and is bound to attract legions of guests anxious to drink delicious craft beer, sample some pub fare, and listen to local tunes.
