Spoetzl Brewery, the Texas brewing operation popular for its Shiner line of beers, has announced a contribution of $500,000 to the Texas Restaurant Relief Fund. This fund was established by the Texas Restaurant Association Education Foundation and is intended to provide financial relief for the employees of Texas restaurants that have been impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Texas Restaurant Relief Fund issues grants up to $5,000 to restaurants in need. Often, a contribution such as this can make the difference between remaining in business and shutting down for good. Shiner is fully aware of the struggles that Texas restaurants are facing and Shiner Brewmaster Jimmy Mauric says his brewery is thrilled to lend a helping hand.
“All of us have been affected by COVID-19. As of today, our brewery is fortunate to continue brewing with enhanced health and safety measures. But we are saddened to know that restaurants and bars throughout Texas—that are independent like us—are in distress. We hope that our collective fundraising efforts will help them respond to the challenges that they’re facing,” said Mauric.
Dr. Emily Williams Knight, President and CEO of the Texas Restaurant Association and Education Foundation, says her organization is prepared to do all it can to help Texas independent restaurants and is ever grateful for the support from Spoetzl Brewery.
“This is an unprecedented time for our industry, fighting a never-before-seen battle for survival,” said Knight. “In times of crisis, restaurants are always on the front lines, feeding victims and first responders; in this crisis, restaurants are among the victims. Together with amazing partners like Spoetzl Brewery, we can support restaurants and their employees, the heart of our communities, stay in operation and weather this storm.”
Shiner’s impressive contribution will certainly make a difference, but more help is needed. Shiner encourages everyone to get involved by making a personal donation to the Texas Restaurant Relief Fund by texting TRRF to 31996. Concerned citizens are also encouraged to show their support on social media by posting a toast to those in the hospitality industry using the hashtag #ShineOnTx.
