Spoetzl Brewery, one of the nation’s oldest breweries and maker of the popular Shiner brand, is ready to add two new beers to its regular lineup. The new products are Shiner Wicked Juicy IPA and Shiner Day Quencher Session Ale, slated for release in Texas in August, 2018 with nationwide release scheduled for September, 2018. Gregor Mina, Director of Marketing for Spoetzl, says the new beers will help the brewery branch out into styles already popular with a large segment of the craft beer consumer population.
“Both beer styles are very much on trend and experiencing record category growth,” says Mina. “It’s exciting to expand our portfolio with new variants to showcase the true craftsmanship of Shiner while complementing our core beers that have been fan-favorites for decades.”
Shiner Wicked Juicy IPA is one of Shiner’s more hop- forward beers to date. Dry hopped and featuring Citra hops for flavor, Wicked Juicy IPA is a bright, juicy brew with obvious citrus character. At 5.7 percent alcohol by volume and 60 IBU, it is more agreeable than many others of its style. Day Quencher is a session IPA brewed with Mosaic hops for a flavor profile that alternates between citrus and floral. With just 4.6 percent alcohol by volume and only 18 IBU, it is a highly quaffable brew perfect for a Texas day. Both products will be sold in 12 oz. and 19.2 oz. cans. Wicked Juicy IPA will also be available on draught.

Shiner’s beer labels over the years have all followed a similar pattern, with the Shiner name spelled out diagonally, the name of the beer underneath the Shiner name, and a less visible image of some sort below the name. The packaging for these new products is different and certainly more eye- catching than the labels for established Shiner products. This should help the cans stand out on store shelves. Along with the more visually appealing labels, Shiner plans to release television advertisements for these two new beers on local Texas cable and sports networks starting in August and running through October, 2018.
