Super Bowl Sunday is upon us. For a large percentage of Americans, the occasion is marked by celebrations and it makes the perfect excuse to throw parties, socialize, and share good cheer with friends while watching the big game. It is also an excuse to try new food and drink, and I happen to have a new drink for my Super Bowl party- a drink I have already tried and plan to introduce to friends this weekend. It is Bellion Specialty Vodka, a “Functional” spirit created using NTX Technology.

Colorless, Odorless, Tasteless?
We’ve all heard the common statement that vodka is a ‘colorless, odorless, tasteless’ liquor, right? Well, there are certainly some vodkas that come close to matching all three of these adjectives, but is Bellion Specialty Vodka the same way? Is it no different from other vodkas, many of which taste like nothing more than ethyl alcohol?
I am happy to report that Bellion Specialty Vodka is different from the rest. This 80 proof vodka pours from the bottle with a consistency that is much like any other vodka and the product is clear. But the nose is a little different from that of other distilled vodkas, with a scent that is slightly spicy. The taste is also different, with a flavor profile that is sweeter than average with the taste of black licorice lurking in the background.
Technology in Action
You’re probably wondering what the NTX Technology is all about. After all, Bellion Specialty Vodka isn’t radically different from its vodka brethren in terms of look, smell, or flavor, but what exactly is this NTX Technology and does it matter?
Well, it turns out that NTX Technology is, indeed, a distinguishing characteristic of this distilled spirit. This unique process blends several FDA approved ingredients, including Glycyrrhizin -Licorice Root Extract, Mannitol, and Potassium Sorbate. When added to alcohol, these ingredients presumably make the distilled spirit friendlier to the human body, protecting organs such as the liver and preserving DNA structure. Bellion Specialty Vodka is the first such spirit to utilize this new technology and in that regard, it is vastly different from the competition.

Super Bowl Memories
Bellion Specialty Vodka is an interesting spirit to say the least. The flavor is unique and I found that it tastes better when served slightly chilled, as it smoothed out the flavor and made it seem even sweeter than the room temperature version. I’m not so sure I would recommend serving this vodka ice- cold because the smoothness could prove too much and could result in drinking too much too quickly.
This vodka would match up well in drier cocktails, like a vodka tonic or vodka martini with a twist. The sweetness of the vodka and the licorice notes could make it unsuitable for certain, sweeter drinks but only your individual palate can make that call so I say experiment and make the call yourself.
NTX Technology is not something I have heard of until I got my hands on a bottle of this vodka and I must agree that it does sound intriguing. Anything that can help halt potential damage to one’s liver and DNA is certainly something worth looking into. I did a little research of my own and it looks like the verdict is still out on whether or not NTX Technology is as amazing as it sounds, but it is certainly a step in the right direction and I applaud the folks at NTX Technology for seeking out ways to make booze more health- friendly.
Super Bowls are about much more than a football game. They are also about good food, good drinks, and good times. Bellion Specialty Vodka is certainly a spirit worth trying and it makes a great additional to your Super Bowl festivities. It is presently sold in approximately 20 U.S. states and if the NTX Technology proves effective, it could easily become the new standard for distilled spirits worldwide.
