Oskar Blues Brewery is one of the nation’s most beloved purveyors of the craft and besides the delicious craft suds brewed by its many affiliates under the CAN’Archy collective, this Colorado- based operation is also notable for its community involvement. Its Can’d Aid division is focused on charitable works that are far- ranging and varied in their approach, but all share the common goal of making life better for the less fortunate.
Just a couple of days ago, Squatters Craft Beers, one of the CAN’Archy member breweries, hosted an event intended to help foster kids in the brewery’s neighboring Utah community. Volunteers joined forces at the brewery where they assembled art kits for foster care children and for youth who have recently been removed from their homes.
The volunteer effort was organized as a happy hour of sorts as guests assembled 200 art kits and enjoyed Squatters craft beer while they worked in a spirit of charity and harmony. The recipient of the art kits is Utah Foster Care, an organization with a mission to seek out individuals who can serve as foster parents/families for children in need.
Can’d Aid Director Diana Ralston says this specific effort is important because art can often serve as means for self- expression and contentment for young people.
“Engaging with an art project can help a child get creative, learn something new and be inspired,” said Ralston. “Art benefits all kids, but especially kids who are going through a trying time, who may be able to better process their emotions and find self-confidence and comfort in art.”
The assembled kits contained everything a budding artist would need for creative fun, such as a paint set, markers, a drawing pad, chalk, crayons, and pencils. Volunteers were encouraged to add their own personal touch to the effort by including their own inspiring message.
CAN’Archy and its Can’d Aid charitable arm are always on the move, helping to make life better for others. Squatters craft Beers regularly participates in such efforts and if you happen to reside in the Salt Lake City area, they would love to have you help with a future volunteer effort.
