If you live in or near the Boston Metropolitan area and have always wanted to sample beer from St. Louis, Missouri- based Schlafly Beer, you now have an excellent opportunity to do exactly that, right in the comfort of a Boston brewery’s taproom.
Schlafly Beer, the largest and arguably best craft brewery in St. Louis, made a wager with Boston’s beloved Harpoon Brewery at the beginning of the NHL Stanley Cup. The St. Louis Blues and Boston Bruins were, of course, competing for the NHL title and as part of the wager, each brewery agreed that the losing team would pour the other brewery’s beer for one day following the victory. Schlafly Beer decided to take things a step further, adding an additional condition to the wager that would require the losing brewery’s personnel to also wear the winning team’s gear while pouring the beer.
Well, the 2019 Stanley Cup is now in the books, concluding with a St. Louis Blues victory. That means the folks at Harpoon Brewery will be serving Schlafly Beer at the Harpoon Brewery, 306 Northern Ave. in Boston, Massachusetts while dressed in full St. Louis Blues garb. Schlafly Beer’s founding brewer Stephen Hale is thrilled for the fans of the St Louis Blues and for drinkers, both in the Midwest and now on the East Coast, who will get to celebrate with Schlafly.
“We couldn’t be more excited for the city of St. Louis,” said Hale. “We have a feeling there is going to be a lot of Schlafly Beer consumed around St. Louis in the next week, and we are so excited to be a part of the celebrations. The added bonus of winning a wager with a great brewery like Harpoon makes this historic moment even sweeter! Congratulations to the Boston fans and players on a great series.”
Schlafly personnel needed a beer to send to Boston for the day of pouring and they decided on their flagship brew, Schlafly Pale Ale. This was one of the brewery’s first beers, dating back to 1991 when Schlafly Beer opened. Schlafly Pale Ale is beloved by the St. Louis craft beer faithful who continue to rank the traditional English style pale ale among their favorites.
Harpoon Brewery hasn’t announced an official date for serving Schlafly Pale Ale, but they will select a date shortly. In the meantime, we at Great Beer Now want to congratulate the St. Louis Blues on their first ever Stanley Cup and we encourage Boston area residents to follow Schlafly Beer and Harpoon Brewery on social media for the announcement of the official serving date.
